Advanced production technologies protect Russia’s ecology

It may sound paradoxical, but construction of new factories can improve the ecological situation in Russia. However, such a positive scenario, according to experts, is only possible on the condition that comprehensive eco-friendly measures — such as those being implemented by oil major Tatneft in the construction of its new plants in Tatarstan — are taken to protect the environment.

Specifically, prior to the construction of the new factories in Nizhnekamsk, the Tatarstan republican authorities had adopted a number of nature-protection documents that defined a rigid framework for the Nizhnekamsk Industrial Unit’s operations, in view of Taneko’s three new plants. Besides, an interdepartmental working group has been set up to oversee the implementation of these measures.

Indeed, Taneko joined the municipal eco-programs long before the kick-off of the construction by disbursing over 50mln rubles into nature-protection programs. For instance, in 2006, the company bankrolled the forestation of 311 hectares, and today, over 2mln trees have been planted on almost 385 hectares. All these steps, according to experts, will lower the emission of pollutants in Nizhnekamsk by 20,000 tons a year.

The application of advanced technologies will minimize the technogenic impacts of the new enterprises on the environment. For instance, they will prevent the emissions of 363,000 tons of sulfur and 4,500 tons of hydrocarbon gases per year. All these, and the fact that engine oils, meeting Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards will be produced at these plants, represent Tatneft’s contribution not only to the preservation of nature in Tatarstan, but throughout Russia.
