Russia boosting full-scale presence in Latin American countries

Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov in mid-February went on a weeklong tour of Latin America, during which he met the leaders of such countries as Nicaragua, Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico. During the meetings, the parties stressed the need to establish and/or deepen their multifaceted cooperation, political dialogs, trade and economic ties. Speaking at the last destination of his tour in Mexico, Lavrov noted that Russia is interested in seeing the whole of Latin America economically strong, politically stable and democratically developed.

“We discussed the situation in Latin America with huge interest. Russia and Mexico actively interact on the international scene as we have a similar view what the new world order should be,” he added. “This envisages the formation of a polycenter world and collective management of global processes, evident in the creation of the G20, where Russia and Mexico actively cooperate. We have agreed to activate and deepen this cooperation further.”
