Reacting to the negative feedback from the Russian Union of Entrepreneurs and Industrialists (RSPP) on the Emergency Situations Ministry’s proposed obligatory anti-fire insurance policy that will protect businesses owners from fire outbreak-related liabilities to third parties, Minister Sergei Shoigu called on RSPP President Alexander Shokhin to reevaluate the initiative more soberly.
According to the ministry, the proposed anti-fire insurance rates, payable by business owners, will depend on the level of the adopted anti-fire measures, whilst the penalties for their violations will vary from 4,000 rubles to 200,000 rubles, sums that will be enough to remedy the damages caused by fire outbreaks. “We have received the RSPP’s review on our proposal, where they condemned the initiative as putting additional burden on businesses,” Shoigu added. “So, let’s soberly sit down together and draft a new bill. But one thing is clear, and that is we need this law as soon as possible. We are ready to discuss everything. In this case, I’m using the media to address Shokhin on this issue.”
