TNK-BP asks court to void tax agency’s 922mln ruble refund order

It seems Russian-British oil major TNK-ÂÐ’s litigations with the local authorities will never end, as it petitioned the Moscow Arbitration Court in March to void the decision of Federal Customs Service (FCS) dated Dec. 16, 2009, ordering it to refund 921.6mln rubles to the state coffers. The first hearing on this case has been set for April 12, according to the court.

However, it was only in February that the company suffered a major setback, when the court threw off its suit against FCS, where it had requested a refund of 6.22bln rubles that it had unduly paid because of the FCS’s illegal application of custom duties on its petroleum and related products exports in 2006-07. TNK-BP, which was created in 2003, is owned on a parity basis by British BP and the Mikhail Fridman-led Russian AAR Consortium of Alfa Group, Access Industries and Renova.
