The second summit of the leaders of the world’s biggest emerging markets – Brazil, Russia, India and China, commonly referred to as BRIC – took place in April in Brazil. The first meeting was held in June 2009 in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. The summiteers discussed several topics such as new perspective directions for broadening the ongoing multi-and bilateral cooperation within BRIC, interactions in the context of international efforts to rein in the global crisis and problems of postcrisis development.
Others included the pressing issues of searching for ways to meet new challenges and threats to modern and human civilization such as international terrorism and nuclear security problems as laid down in the Washington Nuclear Summit, etc. The BRIC leaders adopted a joint statement, where they declared their common vision of situations in the world and ways and methods of their resolutions. The memorandum is the first practical document in BRIC format that envisages the creation of effective infrastructure that will provide financial support for trade, economic and investment cooperation among the four countries.
