The main result of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s April visit to Vienna was the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the South Stream gas project in Austria. Also, a similar agreement was signed by Gazprom and Austrian OMV AG. Putin noted that these agreements will ensure stability in gas deliveries, which will play an important role in boosting energy security in Europe.
“It is very pleasant for me that we signed two important documents, which concluded the formation of the legal base necessary for launching the South Stream project. In his turn, Werner Faymann, the federal chancellor of Austria, said that Vienna does not see any conflict of interests between the alternative energy projects – South Stream and Nabucco – as it has always supported maximal diversification of energy supplies to the country and Europe.
