Speaking at a meeting with Russian businesses CEOs last month, Vladislav Surkov, the first deputy head of the Russian Presidential Administration, called the lack of demand for innovative technologies one of the main problems hindering normal development of the Russian economy. “Such demand can only originate or proceed from businesses, while the government can only assist companies in such process.”
And, reacting to some of the meeting participants’ statements that Russian businesses and their products are not welcome on the international markets, Surkov called on the titans of the Russian capitalism to learn how to make better-quality goods and unique services that can easily make their ways to any markets because such products will always be needed everywhere. “I am absolutely confident that if our businessmen will create something unique, something that is really needed, which has not been made anywhere else in the world, such goods will surely generate and enjoy high demand on global markets.”
He also has called on the Russian business executives to get rid of the genetically ingrained in both their personal and public consciousness the erroneous belief that Russia can only produce raw materials or poor-quality goods, whilst all the best or refined products and services can only be made or generated abroad. “Therefore, the main issue comes down to one’s own attitude to what he/she is doing. “It is possible to be raw-material oriented and backward economy, just as it is also possible to be raw-material oriented and forward looking, effective economy.
