President Dmitry Medvedev and German Federal Chancellor Angel Мerkel at the July session of the St. Petersburg Dialog that took place in Yekaterinburg discussed bilateral trade and economic cooperation, notably, the realization of joint investment projects, such as construction of the Nord Stream gas pipeline and formation of strategic business alliances between Russian and German companies.
They also focused their attention on multilateral foreign policy agenda, including a proposal to create a Russia-EU Committee at the ministerial level to help promote amongst others the signing of a new European Security Agreement. A package of strategic agreements, including the declaration of 2011 ‘The Russian-German Year’ of researches and education and joint preparation and publication of a textbook of history, was signed.
