Yabloko Party head calls for investigations into the causes of summer fires

Yabloko Party has initiated calls for setting up a Public Commission, including experts and civil organizations, to investigate the circumstances and consequences of the wild forest fires this summer, party chairman Sergei Mitrokhin said.

The outbreaks of natural fires on a background of unprecedented drought and high temperatures caused extreme emergency situations in central Russia. The party is of the opinion that the ecological situation in the country, including radiation levels, has sharply worsened because of these fires.

“In this regard, we are calling for carrying out daily monitoring of the levels of hazardous substances in the atmosphere and environment.”
