In October,Sergei Sobyanin, the new mayor of Moscow, was sworn into office in an inaugural ceremony in the City Hall, attended by the nation’s VIPs, led by President Medvedev. The new mayor’s candidacy, nominated by the Kremlin on United Russia Party’s recommendation, was confirmed by the City Council on Oct. 21.
Taking the Oath of Office, Sobyanin promised to boost the city residents’ prosperity. After the oath, he officially became the city’s third mayor.
President Medvedev noted that the new mayor’s main task is to lift Muscovites’ living standard. “Your duties include not lowering the current standards, but also raising them to a new level for everyone living and working in the city. The other tasks include further development of Moscow not only as Russia’s political capital, but also as a key business center for the entire Eurasia region.”
