Kremlin fears the transformation of Russia’s political stability into stagnation

Threats of Political Stagnation

President Medvedev has expressed concerns that the budding signs of stagnation in the nation’s political system could transform stability into stagnation, an outcome that is equally destructive for both the ruling and opposition parties.

“The opposition will degenerate if it does not have the slightest chance of winning in fair elections. The same also applies to the ruling party if it can never lose any elections, as it will degenerate like any living organism that lack motions,” he added. “Therefore, it is necessary to lift the level of political competition so as to make the political system fairer.”
