Serbia and Russia enrich strategic partnership with new joint projects

Russia and Serbia during the official talks held as a part of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to Belgrad have agreed to focus their efforts on those key economic sectors, such as energy, which can lift the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries founded on centuries of mutual aid and spiritual brotherhood to a higher level in the shortest possible time.

Specifically, the talks between Putin and President Boris Tadic focused on the construction of the Serbian part of the South Stream gas pipeline. At the meeting top Gazprom executives presented a detailed overview of the project’s potential and opportunities that will be opened up for Serbia. “Besides, we’ve also successfully implemented other joint venture projects in this industry, including the construction of the Banat underground gas storage facility that is about to be completed as well as bankrolling the modernization of Serbian Oil Industry Corp.,” Putin noted. “For example, Gazprom plans to spend 500mln euros on these objectives in 2011 alone.”
