Speaking after negotiations with Austrian President Heinz Fischer, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow would continue to ensure that partnership with Vienna develop at leaps and bounds rates. There are lots of evidence to support such aspiration. For example, the trade turnover volume between the two countries in 2010 totaled $3.48bln, while the accumulated volume of Austrian investments in the Russian economy stood at $4.2bln. “All this gives grounds to assert that the Russian-Austrian relations are on the rise and have acquired a new quality of trust-based partnership.”
In his reply, the Austrian president said he fully shared the view that the bilateral ties are developing very well. “A big role in this can be attributed to the fact that Austria was the first country to sign a gas contract with Moscow. And since then, we have accumulated broad experience in trusting each other, which has made us reliable partners in our political and economic relations.”
