Russia’s Audit Chamber calls for more efficient use of state funds

Budgetary Efficiency

Audit Chamber Chairman Sergei Stepashin, presenting an assessment of state expenses in the first half of the year to President Medvedev, noted the need to improve the efficiency of government spending. “In general, I believe that the budget, after the amendments made in May, will be fully implemented. However, I must emphasize that one of the major issues, the need to improve the budgetary efficiency, still remains.” In this regard, the Russian president urged Stepashin to continue to strictly monitor the execution of the budget with the aim of achieving transparency in official expenditures.
