Questionable Proposals

Yuri Shuvalov, a top United Russia Party functionary, has called the proposals made by Right Cause Party leader Mikhail Prokhorov to integrate Russia into the Schengen and euro zones in his party's manifesto ‘short-sighted and unpatriotic,’ as such step envisages a loss of sovereignty. “Besides, Prokhorov also said ruble will never become a reserve currency, despite the fact that we are successfully moving in that direction. Such statements demonstrate the gulf separating Russian liberals’ mythology from the real interests of our country and its citizens.”
