Rejection of Honors

Grigory Perelman, the Russian mathematical prodigy, has again refused public recognition, this time the honorary title of the ‘Academician’ of the Russian Academy of Sciences by simply ignoring the initiative of the Steklov Mathematics Institute, which had proposed his candidacy.

The submission of the lists of candidates ended on October 4, but no response came from the genius. The famously reclusive mathematician, who received global recognition for ‘cracking the Poincare Conjecture,’ one of the ‘Millennium Challenges,’ surprised the world by refusing the accompanying $1mln prize. Similarly, he also refused the Fields Medal, considered the analog of the Nobel Prize for mathematics.
