BMW does not intend to invest into new auto production plants in Russia

German automaker BMW in the near future does not plan to invest new funds in the development of its existing facilities or build new plants in Russia, according to BMW Group Russia President Peter Kronschnabel. “Everything will depend on the market demand. If we see growth in demand and, consequently, in sales, then we might rethink our position, but as now we have no plans to invest in the old production or in the creation of additional plants.”

Kronschnabel also noted that the Kaliningrad-based BMW’s Russia subsidiary, Avtotor, which makes the brands locally in the country, plans to produce 20,000 of BMW and MINI vehicles in 2012 and increase the number of its dealership centers from 59 to 70, mostly in the regions.
