The Russian Food Products Manufacturers and Suppliers Association (Rusprodsoyuz) plans to create a National Food Quality Seal based on foreign experience, which will be placed on the packages, informing consumers about the high quality of their contents, the organization head, Maxim Protasov, said. The Quality Seal concept will be finalized either by the end of 2012 or early next year. Its creation stems from the fact that the existing system of technical quality rules regulates only the groceries’ safety, and not their quality. Currently, Rusprodsoyuz has already developed its first 12 quality standards on meat products, including canned meat, condensed milk and tea, while the standards for other products are under development. “This is a non-profit project; therefore, all food manufacturers can get this Quality Seal for free, if their products conform to their industry-accepted standards.”
