The Russian Investigations Committee (IC) has proposed replacing the existing Anglo-American trial model with the Romano-German one. For this purpose, the RIC wants to introduce the concept of the Institute of Establishment of Objective Truth to the Criminal Code that will grant trail proceedings participants new rights, RIC Director Alexander Bastrykin said. “This will ensure the citizens’ constitutional right to fair justice and raise confidence in our justice system.” Bastrykin said the process of proving criminal cases should be aimed at achieving the objective truth that is essential for a proper resolution of cases, meaning a transition to the Romano-German model judicial system. This model has always been closer to our criminal justice system, as it is based on the supremacy of seeking ‘reliable and objectively true knowledge of all the circumstances of the crime under trial.”
