Lukashenko advocates for intensification of relationships with Russia

Union Relationships

Speaking at a meeting in Minsk with Russian Premier Vladimir Putin, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko called for the injection of additional impulse into bilateral relationships, noting that Minsk will never bargain Russian interests with the West, an overt reference to some speculations that the West is ready to close eyes to the Belarusian leader’s activities if he turns his back on the Kremlin. “One can say that the union process is going on quietly, boringly and low-key,” Lukashenko noted. “This leads to some form of misunderstanding between Russian and Belarusians, who want something more concrete. This is why we need to inject additional impulse into our union relations.”
