Commenting on the Declaration on the Modernization of Ukrainian Gas Network, signed by Kiev and Brussels on March 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted the discordance between the new document and the existing gas agreements signed earlier this year between Kiev and Moscow. Russia was particularly perplexed by Ukraine’s consciously ignoring its direct obligations from the existing gas agreement cooperation between the two countries.
The scandalous declaration was penned by Ukraine, European Commission and the Czech Government in its capacity as current European Union chairman, as well as a number of international banks, including World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Investment Bank. “It is quite obvious that the Ukraine-EU declaration on Ukrainian Gas Network contradicts the gas agreements between Moscow and Kiev,” the minister noted.
