Natural Resources minister tops the Russian Cabinet personal wealth list

Millionaire Minister  

Natural Resources Minister Yuri Trutnev has again maintained his position as the richest minister in the Russian Cabinet. According to the declarations filed by the Cabinet members for 2008, Trutnev’s income stood at R369.9mln, leaving far behind Transport Minister Igor Levitin and Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko, occupying the second and third positions with R20.6mln. and R14.2mln. 

However, explaining Trutnev’s enormous wealth, the Natural Resources Ministry noted that parts of the declared income came from the sale of the minister’s shares in the EKS group of companies, co-owned by the minister prior to his appointment to government office.
