The cost of a square meter in affordable, economy class, housing projects, which are being built with federal funding, should not exceed R30,000, Viktor Basargin, the minister for regional development, said. “Besides, apart from affordability, such housing should also meet a number of criteria, including having all modern facilities and being built with the most advanced energy-saving technologies. State orders will only be extended to companies meeting these requirements.”
The minister noted that most Russian regions have the technologies to build such housing. “However, if some regions cannot independently execute such quality housing projects on their own, then we are ready to bring the necessary technologies to them.” In all, Russia plans to build 52mln.sqm of housing in 2009.
