Factsheet on InterContinental Hotel Group
The worldÕs largest international hotels group, IHG operates seven hotel
brands — InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn,
Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites — which offer
536,131 rooms in 3,599 hotels in about 100 countries, more rooms than any other
hotel company in the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that guests, on
average, spend over 120 million stays per year in the groupÕs facilities. IHGÕs
business model focuses on managing and franchising hotel brands in three
different ways — as a franchisor, a manager and on an owned and leased
basis. Franchising is the largest part of IHGÕs business, accounting for 3,158
hotels worldwide, or 85% of the groupÕs portfolio, hotel management accounts
for 498 hotels or 14%, while the group owns 24 hotels, or less than 1%. IHGÕs strategy is focused on increasing the number of its franchised
and managed hotels. Its hotel development
pipeline is one of the industryÕs highest, with plans to add a net total of
50,000 to 60,000 hotel rooms by the end of 2008.
