Reappointed Russian Railways Corp. chief highlights railway development plans

Vladimir Yakunin, the president of Russian Railways Corp. (or RZhD), who was reappointed for another term in June, has disclosed ambitious plans to further develop the state company. "Today, we are about to complete the concept on the development of high-speed trains. The first among these routes will be rail lines between Moscow and Adler, Krasnodar and Rostov, as well as those between the cities that will host the 2018 World Cup matches.” The RZhD chief also spoke about his plans to develop the Northern Railway lines to Murmansk and passenger rail ring around Moscow to help solve the city’s problem of traffic jams. “The implementation of all these projects and plans will depend on availability of funding.”
