Moscow City Tourism Committee to oversee city’s hotel industry affairs

Expansion of Jurisdiction

Moscow government has decided to expand the scope of its Tourism Committee’s activities to include the hotel industry, while the expanded agency named Moscow Tourism and Industry Committee. The main reason for this step, according to the Committee chairman, Sergei Shpilko, stemmed from the lack of interaction between the committee and hotels.

“Currently, tourism and hotels are separated, as hotels are affiliated with different government departments. The new policy will help remedy this situation as the committee will now oversee both tourism and hotel affairs.” Besides, it will also solve other problems in the hotel industry, such as the classification of hospitality facilities according to global standards.
