Oversight agency calls for harsher penalties for food technical requirements violations

Increase Liability

Speaking in the Duma, Gennady Onishchenko, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, an oversight agency, called for increased penalties for violations of technical requirements on food production in Russia. "Today, the fines for such violations are merely symbolic and businesses are ready to pay them even every month. Therefore, we need to significantly increase the financial responsibility, so that businesses "can no longer pay their way out.”

Also, the agency is harmonizing the system of state control over food quality in the Customs Union (CU) as all the general rules are not always good for Russia. Therefore, we need to stipulate special conditions for their application in CU, he added. "Besides, I will insist that Rospotrebnadzor retain the right to unscheduled inspections."
